PageGist

Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 2026  ·  Version 1.0

Short version: PageGist has no backend. We cannot see your conversations, your API keys, or your browsing activity. Everything stays in your browser.

What PageGist stores locally

The following data is stored only in chrome.storage.local on your device and is never transmitted to us:

What PageGist sends to third parties

When you ask a question or trigger a quick action, PageGist sends the following directly from your browser to the AI provider you have selected:

PageGist does not pass through, proxy, log, or inspect these requests. The call goes directly from your browser to the provider (Chrome Nano on-device, Groq, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, or your local Ollama instance). That provider's own privacy policy applies to any data you send them.

What PageGist does not do

API keys

If you provide an API key for a third-party provider, that key is stored locally with obfuscation (XOR-encoded, keyed to your extension install ID) so it is not readable as plain text in browser developer tools. The key is only ever transmitted to the specific provider it belongs to — it is never sent to PageGist or any other service.

On-device AI (Gemini Nano)

When you use the Chrome built-in Gemini Nano option, all inference runs entirely on your device. No data leaves your machine for AI processing.

Chat history

Conversations are stored locally in chrome.storage.local, keyed to a SHA-256 hash of the page URL. To delete your history, open the PageGist side panel and click the clear (⌫) button, or use the "Reset all data" option in settings.

Permissions

PageGist requests the following Chrome permissions:

PageGist does not request permissions to access your browsing history, bookmarks, cookies, or other extensions.

Children

PageGist is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and post the updated version at this URL. We will not retroactively weaken privacy protections without notice.
